Hi all,
I am a DIY electrician. As a youngster my next door neighbour was an electrician, and I spent a few weeks doing 'work experience' with him, and helped him on various jobs around our house and his. As a youngster I wanted to be an electrician, but then computers happened and that's what I went in too instead.
I got my first house a few years back and am in the process of renovating it. As a 1950's house it was built with 'oldschool' electrics, single cables run about the house in metal conduit, a lot of which is still about but all disconnected at all the ends I've seen. Thankfully it has been re-wired though, so I have an RCD consumer unit, twin and earth cables etc.
So as I worked on the first two rooms (that had a total of 3 single sockets between them) I decided to get existing sockets doubled and more installed. I researched and planned it but then in the end got an electrician in who give or take did what i was planning but did learn a trick or two from him.
Am happy with extending ring mains, re-fitting/wiring light fittings and switches but have a few other jobs to do which I need some guidance on which is why I signed up here......

Welcome to the asylum.

you can ask Dan, the boss, for access to the DIY section
Thanks littlespark, its a pretty vast forum but yeah spotted the DIY section. Assume thats the only one I should post in not being a qualified electrician?

Welcome Paul do you have a thick skin?
Thanks Pete, oh dear, have i said something wrong already?
Depends on my mood, if i've spent the day telling people to switch it off and on again anything goes. But if I've spent the day telling a business owner how to run their business (i work for a software company supporting business management systems) then my patience might be wearing thin!

Yes. You should join the diy section. Send a pm to Dan.

you can ask anything in there and not get slated for asking a stupid question.
(hence the “thick skin” comment)

Ah ok, thanks for the tip. haha ok, if i ask a stupid question i'll take it, 4 weeks work experience and the ability to google stuff only gets your knowledge so far!
