I have just changed my CU and while testing found that the hall lights (2 down stairs and 1 upstairs) dont have an earth connection at the ceiling pendant. The rest of the downstairs lights and switches do have earth connections.

the pendants are class 2.

What should I do ? put a sticker on the CU re: no earth on some downstairs lights?
note it as a type 2 proble on the inspection sheet?

any advice very welcome!

cheers,

andy

are you getting Zs readings from the other lights or are they just visible? you could try stripping back cables at the lights with no earth as i ave found sometimes just cut off

as already said mate, i would strip back cable to see if cpc cutt off. failing this recommend re-wiring lights with no cpc. another option would be to run 4mm earth from another circuit cpc to the light

determine the type of cable ( t & e or just twin ) if there is no cpc use stickers and notice stating the pendants are not earthed and only class 11 pendants shuold be fitted , take a copy and make the client sign it .

:p

First line of post "I have just changed my CU" ;)

Maybe a check before changing c/u would have been better .... not really helpful I know, sorry.

But, I have come across cpc in c/u, then mysteriously missing in light fittings .... some one taking the michael think.

you are totally correct - I should have had a look before starting, all part of the real-world-learning-curve. Lesson learnt!

good news is that I took the plates off the ceiling and the earth wires were tucked up there! Ive now connected them to the plates and everything is looking the biz.

thanks for all the feedback - much appreciated.

If you have t&e at the light I presume that it goes back to a junction box and if so it will not be the first time that a sneaky wee earth slipped out of the earth terminal.

just a thought
