Not always common practice but it was certainly used on a few installations that I've seen.

no sleeving needed. live is live, switched or not. the twin red was a good idea, as it saved confusion after the plastrerers chopped your cable ID markings off.

In my case,Yes
It was more prevalent to use correct colour cores than is the case today, with so many sparks using brown/blue for switch cables

Even nowadays, with the changed colours, I try to always use twin brown whenever possible and avoid the id issue

Go back further, when lighting may not have had a cpc.it was also usual for switch cables to be the correct colour conductors

you can use thatnow if you put a bit if the sh*tty coloured sleeving on it

Yeah and when you pick a drum up by mistake it's a right pain in the arse when you first fix a lighting circuit for a kitchen and then have to do it again when you realise! :cuss:

The house I'm working in at the moment has metric (solid conductor) T&E for the lighting radial, but imperial (stranded) twin red T&E for the switch drops! Think it was built 1967ish.
I believe the Irish regs don't allow you to sleeve - the colour must be the whole length of the conductor. So for a 2-way it's a twin brown T&E and single brown.

Simon.

I see some say it's not common practice. However in the north of Ireland it is extremely unusual to see oversleeved red/black or brown/blue used instead of twin red or twin brown for switches using T&E cable. In fact it is so uncommon that you could almost guarantee that it wasn't an Irish company who installed it but a company over from England or Scotland if you came across it.
