polarity test

Hi, I have just done a IEC check. It is a normal plug plugged into the mains, then on the other end, it's been wired up to a double socket. It passed the earth, and insulation but failed the polarity test. Im gathering that means its not wired correctly and needs to be taken out of service until repaired?

if the socket has been added DIY, it's probasbly wired incorrectly. either fix it or take out of service with a red fail sticker.

Sounds like an extension to me, does it fall within the scope of BS7671?

For all the time testing and still not know the problem surely it would have been quicker to take two screws out and fix it.

Just wanted to double check. Only just passed pat course. First time I've had this. Thanks for the advice.

Yes it is an extension. Either way. I failed it. I took the socket apart and re wired it but it didn't work. It looks like a DIY job to me.
