Powering down alarm system

Hi,

About to power up an alarm system for the first time, panel is a Honeywell Accenta G4.

As I understand it the alarm will sound until I've set the remote key pad - fine.

The manual mentions leaving in the tamper links for first power up. If I need to disconnect the battery and mains supply to work on the panel wont the bells go off until the panel is fired up again?

How do I totally power down the whole system? Is it a case of getting the ladders out and disconnecting the batteries in the bell boxes.

If so I assume I'll open the tamper circuit on the bell boxes and activate the alarm.

Is this whole process just a noisy job that requires ear defenders, or are there any tips!

Personally I grab my sub card and as I open one side of the bell case slide the card into holding the tamper switch down, remove the case and disconnect the battery.

tricky job but as long as you know where that button is your sorted, if not be quick!

Ok, but once powered up and silenced with the tamper links in I'll need to power down completely (inc. Battery) to remove them and re connect the actual wires (or do any other work on the panel). Won't the bells sound if they aren't getting anything at all from the panel? or do I just have to be quick, or....get the ladders out

once you have powered up the panel, there's no reason to power it down again.

As Tel says above. If you are a bit nervous of going into a panel with the mains on then just switch off the mains and leave the battery connected.

sorry, but that's daft. battery is then in the way of dressing your cables in, and usually you'll find it falls out, dragging the PCB out with it. panel is perfectly safe to work on with mains power on.

I was just giving the OP an option of switching off the mains if he doesnt like messing about in the panel when its on.
I've never had a problem with the battery dropping out on the panels I've messed about with.

Not bothered about the Mains electricity, I'm more concerned about poking around and accidentally shorting something out on the board if it's getting power from the battery.
