Over the last 7 years I have replaced a p.i.r. activated security floodlight 3 times.

Not surprisingly it has been the detector which failed each time, not the light.

Having spent my professional life in electronics, I would, a few years ago, have designed and built a reliable replacement myself, using good quality components with known pedigrees. But I just can't be bothered any more.

So, can anyone recommend a good, well built, and above all, reliable p.i.r. motion detector? Preferably something designed and fabricated in the U.K., not in the honourable far east.

In my experience the most common cause for failure of such units is the positioning of the pir detection being in direct sunlight. Like with everything else these days, you usually get what you pay for so don't expect a unit for £10 to be as good as one for £80

I use the Robus fittings , every one I've fitted has had no problems at all , I get em from Denmans , not that expensive either

I have used the Luminite Omega Pir now for over 20 Years. In that time i would say i have replaced only 3 which have become faulty. Maybe not as small as more current pir detectors but bullet proof. (Not literally ?)

I feel your pain.......i have exactly the same ongoing problem! :( i installed 16 PIRs in a lorry yard beginning of last year. iv replaced 6 so far.

the timeguard PIRs seem to be reliable.
