Hi guys,

I am considering having a website built for my business but unsure as is whether it is worth it or not.

I have typically relied on word of mouth and a small bit of local advertising for business and it has worked well for the past 3 years, thing is I am hoping to expand a little and also am thinking about advertising to assist in continuing to gain more work. So, I thought the website route may be a good option and was wondering if you guys who have website have found it a benefit or not??

I can get a 4 page website for £150+VAT for the first year and then 99+VAT every year after that. This includes all maintenance and building/design etc.

I have also looked at the 'DIY' web sites that seem to be on offer on the web but I am worried that these may not look as professional as actually paying a designer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i done mine myself mate i shall pm u link, it cost me 30 quid a year to have online. i think it does the job and to be fare i had a few jobs via it.

I think that the time will come when not having a website will be an issue. I get the odd enquiry via the web but all my cards, leaflets and ads include my web address so I've no idea how many people look at the site and then ring.

My site was done by a guy who does sites and I get stats each month so I can see the "traffic".

I simply see having a website as part of my marketing.

As for the cost - I wouldn't know where to start designing a website/email hosting etc and I'm happy to pay someone else.

I'll pm my link for you to have a gander!

This is my main concern I suppose, I am pretty certain that I will get one setup, just need to decide on budget.

Dan the site admin man has a contact for websites, I saw him post it up on anotherthread. Maybe a well placed PM to him will solve your dilemma

Maybe instead of getting a website built, rather do a little homework and make your own blog using Wordpress. It's pretty easy and when it comes to Google rankings, blogs do very well if you add content regularly.

A lot of people fall into the trap of having a website made for them and because they know very little about the mechanics of the site they just let it sit and stagnate. Consequently it ends up way down the search rankings and they don't get any return from it.
