Hi guys passed my 2391 six months ago and have been inspecting friends and family for free to gain experiance. Got my first paying job, got to fuse board and noticed no earth wires for lighting circuits, checked out a couple of light fittings and same here. how do I go about testing these circuits, eg R1+R2?. What code do I give them etc. Many thanks guys.

just list tht they dont comply with current regs and note that all class 1 lighting equipment should be changed to class 2, ie change metal fittings to plastic. or rewire lighting?

regarding coding for a pir or eicr there could be cause for arguement, personally i would code it as a 1 however as i would say there is an immediate cause of danger if metal fittings are present within the lighting circuit.
i would code it as a 2 if there were no metal fittings present and say it requires further attention. others will more than likely disagree.

as regards to the testing you will not beable to record values such as r2 or r1+r2 and should note why on the cert. you should however fill in all other results as normal.

Try the ESC best practice guides they are quite a help if you have limited experience.

Code 4 - there is no requirement to update a lighting circuit without a CPC. It would however be sensible to note specific metal features (if present on said lighting circuit) for "improvement" ie code 2

Is the circuit RCD protected?
The ESC best practice guide suggests using Class ii fittings and accessories, protecting the circuit with an RCD and placing a warning lable to the effect that there is no CPC on the lighting circuits.
Such would be a Departure, but would (acording to the ESC) offer the same degree of safety as would be achieved if there was a CPC.
