Discuss 3 port valve to cylinderstat connections help! in the Central Heating Systems area at ElectriciansForums.net

I need to connect a new cylinder stat to a 3 port valve.

I have on the cylinderstat C, 1 and 2.

On the 3 port I have brown blue and white wires but these are not labeled or identified and there's no instructions to refer to.

How do I know I've connected the stat to the valve correctly as there's no indication on the actual valve which port is open or closed when the motor operates.

The valve operates when I adjust the stat (opens and closes) but I don't know if it's working the right way around!

Cheers

The 3 port valve will be labelled A, pipe to radiators, B, pipe to hot water and AB pipe from boiler.
Colours are usually orange, grey, brown/white and blue (neutral), G/Y (Earth)

Brown will be orange

White should be the live from the room stat when calling for heat

Orange is same but to room stat. Orange also connects to the boiler and pump and becomes live when room stat is calling for heat, don't forget both programmer and stat must be calling for heat to be live.

Grey also goes to room stat and is live when stat is off (not calling for heat)

Cylinder stat

1 = orange/brown
2 = grey
C = live from programmer when calling for hot water

If your still not sure if it's the correct way around Just turn on the programmer onto either hot water or heating and feel the pipes to see which gets hot.
