Hi, I will be moving to the U.K and would like to know what the work situation is like and how I would go about continuing my trade as a qualified electrician and what the average pay rates are? This move is NOT by choice. I have data, fiber and communications experience also is this considered a qualified trade in the U.K?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

I would try BT, you would have a good chance of getting a job at their Openreach business(the maintenance and new phone lines department) and you could also try the Virgin Media telephone company, you are about 95% sure to get a job there and the pay's not too bad, plus you would get a van and be able to use your fibre experience installing their new fibre optic broadband lines...

Thanks for the information, I will follow it up. What about construction jobs and pay rates? Are there governing bodies I can contact for further information. Here in Australia we have the E.T.U (Electrical Trades Union) and N.E.C.A ?? Do you have similar contacts?
