i have been semi offered a start with Balfour Beaty on a nuclear site. Anyone any experience working with them, especially on nuclear sites? good/bad reputation. Posting in the pub as wasn't sure if it was allowed on general forum (mentioning company name).

I worked on HY2 with BB and found them ok, took a lot of getting on with them. There was a outage scheduled and applied well within time, but took 3 months to get vetted and inducted. But once on site I had a good 6 months with them, very hard to get work with BB.
Their safety culture is understandable given the nature of the industry. They give you more than enough PPE and training courses. Drink and Drug tests are quite frequent and random. The days do drag as it's like groundhog day. Same place same work all day everyday. But they do look after you.
Good Luck

Know a couple of lads working for them in Grangemouth. Blue book rates and decent hours. Do you have your safety passport? as I am sure you will need that to get through the site gates.

No safety passport I'm afraid. Potentially found a way in through the back door. Basically I have applied for a job that was closed on recommendation by a mate there as there wasn't many applicants. It's with the view of site experience before applying direct with edf, or maybe even on the new nuclear builds. Should hear back early next week.

I worked for them 2 or 3 times via an agency before i give up on that ****. The general word was they where aiming towards mainly agency workers and just a few employed people / workers

There materials ordering system is poor if you can waste time on site then your kind of cuppa tea( boring suit ex maintenance. Not for me )
never anything you want in stores
toolbox talks and so agenda repetitive ( if you need this drumming in you should not be on site in the 1st place makes a mockery of cscs safety passport complex etc)
my two penny's worth
old school sparks LoL

If you’re employed what does it matter? You can’t install something you haven’t got so you sit around drinking tea.

I’ve always worked for multinationals, so I have a prodigious tea consumption rate while at work.

You just push the “time is money” and “I’ve got to get the job done” mentality out of your mind.
