Battery Battery Drills

This topic has probably been done to death but I'm looking for a new Li-ion battery drill. Something with a bit of power but still light enough weight wise. What are people using and what do you recomend.

b&q are doing the AEG on offer. the 1.5Ah batteries are a bit short use on a charge though. otherwise it's a good tool.

The new makita twin set (impact and drill) think its the dk1000 with 2x3ah li-ion star batteries and quick charger got mines two weeks ago and there the dogs balls

Don't bother with anything under 3ah. I'm using the 4ah dewalts twin pack good kit git mine from my tool shed

Makita Bhp 458 I recommend, I agree with Keith if you get a 1.3 ah you will be constantly charging it. 2.6ah or more

YEP I WILL SECOND THAT, i got one in the homebase sale for 80 quid just for downlights and dirty work, im a brand snob i will admit but these are good, ****e box as expected but a quality feel about them, metal chuck and gearbox!

I use makita 14.4v 3.0ah sds drill and impact driver.cant fault then battery last ok but with a 20 min charger your not with a battery for long.

i just picked up a makita 18v (combi) bhp451 40/80nm torque with 2*3amp batteries

if your going for makita check out fastfix its very cheap with free next day delivery over £20 (if ordered before 2pm)


there selling the makita bhp451 and impact driver with 2 batteries for £330 as well which seems like a very good offer

all metal chuck+gearbox as well

(there selling the same drill for 399 at wickes, check if you don't believe me)

I'm a makita man, bhp451. The good thing about the makita 18v is the vast range of other tools on the same battery platform. The bad points were the early makita batteries had a few problems if not recharged regularly but has improved (and so hass their customer response to this).

If you're going to spend more check out milwaukee. Did have a look at the new bosch cool battery range and if you look into their brushless tech marketing it is impressive, makita do brushless too but I have not tried either of these as a user so can't validate their hype,.

If you want to spend less then look at the Ryobi One range.

it is vastly underpowerd


it has half the torque off the bhp451

Had 453 for two year now without any problems but better since I had metal chuck put on! Just a shame about the batteries as one has just died!

idiots at work have managed to smooth it out a little bit.
