We've always gone by 250mm, sometimes pushed it too 300mm if i'm honest because its a mare getting a noggin in (right down in the eaves for example) but even 300mm allows a lot of play up and down, normally try and keep them as close as possible to the edge. Over time that movement will definitely have an effect on the fixings becoming loose in my opinion quite a bit of leverage there putting strain on the end roof hook.

i think u need to contact firm who fitted it if ur not happy! everybody has his own methords/standards/opions i think your job is fine just look at the meter and :) if it stops clocking up have a look in the field next to u :))

Thanks again for the comments.

The comments on the most right hand bracket being too far in - this makes sense. Visually to me this is the one thing I have noticed, sometimes the end panel is flush with the remaining panels, other times I can see that the corner has raised by a few mm, so there is definately some movement there at the moment.

I assume this movement over a number of years would cause issues?

If it was to be fixed, how could this be done since there would be no more roof batons under the right most panel?

batons are not used on your roof! loads of ways ie if no truss then timber added in roof for this purpose but as ive said before CALL THEM!! not that it needs doing from what i can see!! i think ur paranoid !! the more u look the worse it gets !! also u could get whiplash if you go on like this!!
