Hi I'm very sorry if my first post is in the wrong place. I'm now starting my own electrical installations company involved in industrial/domestic and commercial installations.
I understand that becoming niceic approved contractor is the long term goal but in the short term could I sign off and submit test certificates for my industrial/commercial works? I am fully qualified 17th edition and have passed the 2391 testing qualifications.

Any my advice guidance would be gratefully received

Many thanks

in a word, yes. unless client specifies membership of 1 of the scams, then part peee does not apply to industrial/commercial.

Thanks a lot. This was the way I always understood it but I've been out of the loop for a year or so and things seem to change weekly in this industry!

the only shame is that so many people expect you to be affiliated to one organisation or another. Too many expenses at start up point.

What do you mean by ''I am fully qualified 17th edition'' ??

You used to of had to have at least two years trading as a company and other bits and bob's to even be considered worthy of applying for ''Approved Contractor'' status!! But that's when being an Approved Contractor meant something. Alas any Tom Dick or Harry can obtain that status now just by showing 5 jobs and a fist full of money!!

Time served electrical apprentice. 17th edition regs update done and c&g 2391 qualified. Not sure what you're trying to say. Obviously there is a lot of ill feeling towards registration bodies ie elecsa niceic. But the fact remains that if a company specifies the contractor be associated with one of these then the is no solution.
What I'm trying to understand is whether there is a necessity to join up if the customer had no such policy?

hope this clears things up.

Don't worry, there are a select few on here who try to belittle and have a go at anyone who dares to ask certain questions or have opinions that differ from their own.

They are Electrical Gods in their eyes, you are Not worthy, :)

Thanks

dont mind taking a bit of banter now and then but I wasn't trying to be smart. Just enquiring as to what everyone else does at start up point.

The only restriction on you as far as certification for comm/industrial installation is making a commercial decision

It is part of the regs to issue a certificate and that applies across the board so the only consideration is client stipulations

In order that they are getting a company of regulated standards many firms ask for the installing company to be Niceic approved contractors

It does not stop you trading by not being in Nicy, but it is a commercially wise move
The ECA membership will give you much the same, but its Nicy who have got the call on who's name is best known

Not at all, A electrical trainee could also use the same terminology, and meaning he has a 17th C&G. They are convinced they are fully qualified too!!

It doesn't take much to be an Electrical God on here just lately, that's for sure. I think i might of upset you in the past...

Haha, not at all.

I just observe most of the time and that's how it comes across by a certain few to a lot of people on here, even if unintentional!
