Data on the computer I deleted, how I need to get it back. Please recommend some software. Thank you

Check recyling bin or restore function, and restore back to before you deleted. not to sure if it restores deleted files but worth a try, and wont do any harm

Tazz is correct, you can actually go into your computers files and then restore back to an earlier date so everything should come back again, click on your little round window and go to control panel and go from there, I can't remember the route right now to recovery but it is there somewhere.

I did not think that System restore would recover any personal files that were deleted.

I successfully used it recently to rescue a corrupted hard drive. Happy days!!!

Don't think "system restore" recovers files , it restores just the "registry" settings, but as mentioned above, using the "recycle bin" should (as long has that hasn't been emptied) - I'm assuming it's a Windows operating system?

Recuva is a good bit of software but there is one mistake nearly everyone makes. If you accidently delete something turn if off at the wall and remove hdd.

As soon as you have deleted a file its flagged as availible space anf the os will overwrite it

Haha...I don't what the cause was, but I recovered all my 'special' data.

As long as he hasn't done a defrag or written anything since deleting as any files deleted will be overwritten.

Remember though that windows constantly reads and writes when you are running windows on that drive.

That is why its good practise to keep data on either a seperate drive or partition

recuva is good software
you can also find it on the hirens boot cd
puppy linux is good and easy to use
any forensic linux distro has various file recovery programs, and there are a lot of linux rescue disks as well
you can download and burn to cd or dvd any of the live cd or live dvd (and they are free)
i quit using windows crap over 10 years ago
