Hi guys

Hope you are all OK?

So I am doing a job for a friend. They are have a new kitchen fitted and wanted me to sort the electrics. Easy enough job, extending ring, adding spurs and low level sockets for washer, dryer etc. Also adding a new cooker circuit. I will be dropping the cables down from the ceiling so no problem there.

Anyway, I have just been informed that they are having it damp proofed!! They said the guy was applying the membrane about a meter up from ffl, then cementing over it, then plastering the whole wall. The guy said he needs the electrics doing first. Fair enough.

So I have a question:

1) Does the cement they use affect the insulation of the cable? I know normal cement does but not sure about this stuff.

I have come across the membrane before and used those sticky tie wrap things for the cable and then dry line boxs after dot and dab. But not sure about this cement stuff. I will be going down tom and will probably speak with the guy doing the jobs but just wanted to know if you guys has come across this before.

Thanks fir reading and I look forward to your views/info.

Cheers
Jay

How did you get on Jay Sparks?

Spoke to the guy doing the job and he assured me the cement he uses doesn't corrode the pvc sheath. It has some sort of salt in it that soaks the up the damp and is similar to backing plaster. Just done the first fix today, and he's doing his bit in a few weeks. thing is though, the wall weren't even damp! Dry as a bone and rock hard! Even my scutch chisel struggled.
