Hi all,
I’ve got my first inspection coming up and I have installed downlights in a bathroom, the downlights I installed didnt have a connection terminal for the earth cable so I put them in connectors in a junction box with the L and N and then just added tails from the L and N into the downlight terminal.
Is this acceptable?
And if this ok when it comes to doing my dead and live tests can I test from my end of line junction box as it is where the earth ends?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

i would pefer the cpc to go as far as possible into the downlights, can terminate in a small connector or, at worst, sleeve over and bend back. your method should be acceptable. test R1+R2 and Zs at end of cpc.

As long as you used a compliant junction box it should be fine, next time use better lights
I bought them at a reliable local electrical wholesalers so I assumed they would have been a good fitting. What kind of junction box would you recommend in this situation?
Thanks

Has long it is not like that then you will be fine.

If it's something like the Lap ones that don't have an earth connection, then using a wagolite junction box to terminate the circuit cabling, with a short 2 core flex to the downlights is perfectly acceptable. I use the wago 224 connectors, but in theory the junction box is probably accessible so any connection method would be fine.

Did this on my last inspection and he was fine with it. No different than a pendant being supplied with a 2 core flex.

Main thing is to ensure earth continuity for the circuit, and keep the bit to the downlight as short as possible so that if they are ever changed, the next guy can reuse the earth.

The 'tails' need to be flex or similar, not just singles - so there is no single insulation outside of any enclosure...

Aw perfect thanks for that, that’s good to know cause I was looking at them wago jbs online at screwfix. And yes I meant a small bit of 2 core flex out, I realised my wording was wrong after I asked the question!
