Hi
I'm a newbie here so beg your pardon if I post the thread where doesn't belongs. I hope I didn't violated so bad the rulles..
So , I'm gonna start with this: yesterday I was in Swanley and passed the ECS exam at JIB. Today I was applying on the ECS website for a Gold Card but I'm stucked at the qualifications and next step ocupation fields. My diploma is provided by City & Guilds , and I have passed the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671 : 2008 (2015) - 601/5464/0 ,wich has another code like 300516/2382-15 .
When I'm searching for this kind of document in the list of the qualifications I don't find it. I've passed the ECS exam and I was received an email with an reference number. I'm gonna upload here both documents for better undersstanding and hoping to receive some advice..

the 2382-15 is just the wiring regulations. for a god card you need level 3 2330 or as is now i think 2356, and NVQ3.

So , what can I do with this diploma? It's useless?

It's not useless, it proves you have knowledge of the current wiring regulations, or can at least use its index properly.

If the ECS gold card is your aim you need to gain the technical underpinning knowledge and the NVQ3. Ask your local college about enrolling on such a course. You have a few years of training ahead of you yet if being an electrician is your aim.

I'd ask your local college. None of the courses on the page you linked to will gain you your gold card outright, additional courses will be needed.

The qualification you have shows knowledge of the wiring regulations but the current Level 3 NVQ Diploma is a 3 - 4 year course, workplace assessment is required to demonstrate competence in a wide range of areas including design, various cabling, containment, testing, fault finding etc. The qualification also includes the AM2 - a four day practical skills test. Avoid tradeskills4u and other online courses. I don't know what work experience you have, if you do have experience and are working as an electrician now I would consider the JIB mature candidate assessment route Mature Candidate Assessment | Joint Industry Board (JIB) - http://www.jib.org.uk/mature-candidate-assessment.aspx

Shouldnt your College/Education place told you all this

for ECS card, need a NVQ 3, the 2330/2365 it then asks for a NVQ 3 after asking for that, so its just a NVQ 3
So now it will take you another 3-5yr to do a NVQ3 to get your ECS card.

TradeSkills4U
if you are going with them then you will want to do
C&G 2365 Course Level 2 & 3 Full Diploma
Then do a Bridge over unit for the 2357 and you will need to do the AM2 with that
The 2357, you will need to be working in the industory, maybe ways around that tho.

"The 2365 Course contains 16 weeks of practical and theory training at Level 2 and 3. You get your full certificate at the conclusion of the qualification training elements.

The 2357 contains 16 weeks of practical and theory training at Level 3 plus the NVQ and AM2 assessment, you get units of credit certificates but don’t get the full certificate until conclusion of the AM2 which is likely to take a significantly longer time.

You do not need to be employed by an electrical contractor to do 2357 or 2365 courses, however it would be advisable to undertake the 2365 course in preference to the 2357 if you’re not employed by an electrical employer, as the 2357 is perhaps more challenging to people who do not have the support of an electrical employer.

Frankly the two qualifications are equally relevant and get you to the same place at conclusion and both give you equally good career path choices, for example, you are able to add on the NVQ and AM2 at the conclusion of your 2365.

To summarise, we would say take the 2365 course if you’re generally new to electrics, it’s essentially delivered in more easily manageable steps to achieve the same result. We would say take the 2357 if you’re employed by an electrical contractor who can support you through an NVQ, if not then take the 2365.

It covers the full range of electro technical training, classroom theory and practical hands on workshop training with all the exams and assessments to become a competent electrician.

You would then progress onto the AM2 and then your NVQ3 (as per the 2357) if you so choose and when you are ready."

mm wow i was SCREAMED at for suggesting i would do the 2357 without being employed (and i do mean screamed at)

And the JIB Have shafted many many electricians who have had GOLD CARDS in the past with this stupid ruling on NVQ3 they have not in any way allowed for people who have been in the trade for many many years who do not have an NVQ3 and never have had, why,, because there was no such animal when they served their time as apprentice or Trainee Electricians...I dare say half the tutors in colleges teaching apprentices have not got NVQ3's Either...all they have done is throw alot of good experienced electricians on the scrap heap..

Quick fact check... If you have a valid gold card obtained before the NVQ was required you can still renew it, no obligation to get the NVQ or even to keep up to date with the wiring regs - just the ECS test. If you are a QS and have three valid inspections there is another route to a gold card, NVQ not required. If you have sufficient experience to demonstrate competence and no NVQ you can also apply to be assessed under the 'mature candidate route.' Lots of providers offer this option Mature Candidate Assessment | Joint Industry Board (JIB) - http://www.jib.org.uk/mature-candidate-assessment.aspx.
Furthermore, the new 'trailblazer' apprenticeship standard stipulates that lecturers and assessor must be experienced, qualified electricians. Apprentices will be eligible for EngTech registration on completion.

Sorry but you are wrong, I have been down this route, and first stage appeal procedure, if your quals are not in the form of an NVQ3 You can have a Gold Card anymore...Yes you can go down the mature candidate route, and do the AM2 BUT... why should we have to? As I am nearing retirement Age, Like many others I dare say why should I have to now embark of a Mature Candidates course and AM2..? By the time i finished all that I will either be pushing up daisy's or hopefully retired,, But that does not help me or others in the same boat now,,Given that I have already had a Gold card and indeed JIB Cards since the early 80's...And by the way I was also a NAPIT Q.S. with alot more than 3 inspections under my belt,, didnt count for nothing...The more I look at it the more I see a Money Spinner for someone. and that someone aint me.
