Hi I went back to college and did 2330 level 2 and 3, regs and pat testing and part p. I couldnt find a standard apprenticeship with a local company but i have found an electrical engineering apprenticeship with a national company. Ive been told ill be doing the nvq level 2 performing engineering operations for the next 2 years on day release. Ive also been told that for years 3 and 4 ill be doing the btec and nvq level 3. Does anyone know what the normal nvq level 3 and btec would be for an electrical engineer? would i even have to do the btec if ive done the 2330 level 3? i dont even know if im working towards being an instrument tech or electrician :/ I know these are questions i should be asking the company but noone really knows and i dont want to start going on and on about something and causing waves when ive only just started. Its a fantastic company and im very lucky just to have the apprenticeship so the last thing i want to be doing is peeing people off. Many thanks if you can help.

sounds like you've landed on your feet fella, national company should mean well structured training and a lot of money invested in you and your development. not sure about the NVQ but the BTEC will be electrical & electronic engineering and yes you would definitely need to do it. you're not going to be an electrical engineer at the end of it, more likely a maintenance electrician but with those qualifications you could become an electrical engineering technician, registered through the UK Engineering Council. You may think 'so what?' but that is recognised as a professional standard by the governments of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to name a few, should you get itchy feet in the future.
Finally, large companies are big on professional development so the only barrier to going further like HND and Degree will be you.
Good luck, sounds to me like you're on a winner:yes:

hi thanks for the reply, yes when i read these boards and see everyone scrambling just to get a foot in the door i havent forgotton how lucky I am. But again, sadly my friend still hasnt got one and we got exactly the same grades and qualifications. I think the one thing thats been emphasized by the last 3 years is the crucial element of luck. I was told about the job i got by another friend. If however i hadnt worked my --- off at college for two years and got distinctions in my exams then i might have failed to get it. My qualification is apparently more techy based rather than the 2357 which is fine by me :D Ive been told itld be easier to go from what im doing to an electrician than to go from an electrician to what im doing. So yeah, definitely landed on my feet
