Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.
I am a fully qualified Electrician and have been for some time, I am looking to go work abroad so I can earn a decent wage (my current wage is very poor) ...
I have trawled the net and there are endless amounts of companies/agent advertising work, however, I would prefer recommended companies.
Can anyone suggest/recommend a company/agency I can send my CV to?? ... Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Cobes. I've moved this thread to the 'Non UK Electrical Works' forum for you.

Good luck with the job hunting.

Unfortunately you are unlikely to find overseas electrician contracts, your just too expensive compared with TCN electricians. If your a ''fully'' qualified and experienced electrician with a proven extensive/diversified area of experience, then you stand a far better chance of looking at supervisory positions, but even then, these will be few and far between. The only other positions i would think are available to electricians, would be with the support contractors in the Middle East, working in designated hazardous locations.

Hi Marcvgreen,
No I have had no luck .. I really don't know where to start, I see adverts for contract work in the far east and other locations, but how legit they are I dont know!!

Well if you don't even bother to enquire, you'll never know will you!!!

Iv noticed engineer 54 always says there is no work going on for electricians.there is lots of well paid work going on it Norway at the moment.. There is endless amounts of electrical work happening in bc Canada.there is companys recruiting for onshore work in Bergen Norway but u must have a dsb cert to work there

I wouldn't know about Norway, but I know that Canada is having a double dip in their economy as are the US and are only employing Canadian/settled immigrant sparks that are licenced, and not out sourced labour. If you do manage to get work in Canada, most of the Provinces will only employ you if you possess the IP red seal licence. Your UK qualifications are only recognised for 6 months, and within that 6 months you have to challenge the IP exam and pass it. Other wise you have to work as a 4th year apprentice until you do.

Where are you getting your information from regarding B.C? Don't fall for the adverts "Live and work in Canada", they will charge you around £7000.00 to fill in forms that you can fill your self, and it will stilll take on average about 6 years before you get there. And there's no guarantee that you will get in despite the all the fanny they give you. The CIC do not favour applications from agencies and other chancers. You will know when they are outsourcing, because the adverts will state that the companies are in the UK carrying out interviews. But that will be a long time from now.

Exactly!!

You won't find overseas contracts for electricians unless you have the relevant certificates, that country requires, and your not going to get those certs or registrations in the UK!! Most of the guy's enquiring about overseas jobs here, are thinking along the lines of contract jobs where a company advertises for UK qualified electricians to work overseas. I'm afraid those day's have long gone. Those positions are now being taken by third world country electricians, they are far cheaper to hire, and without many of the benefits and leave rotations associated with UK/European sourced personnel. There is always the exception, but they are going to be few and far between!!

Different matter if you your thinking about emigrating to a specific country, but even then, in most cases, the local certification process will still have to be gone through, and some countries will really put you through the loops!!! lol!! ....Afraid there is no such thing as 5 week courses outside of the UK!! lol!!
