Hi,

My sockets are currently situated on the skirting board and I'm wanting them higher so that they sit in the wall.

My plan was to pull back the two cables, join them in a JB (under floorboards considered inaccessible??) and then pull two new cables up from that JB to the higher positioned socket.

Would this be an acceptable way of extending the cable runs? Or would they need crimping or connected using something maintenance free?

Any other info regarding this would be great

Thanks in advance

....no seriously, It's staggered Insulated Crimps & Heat shrink sleeving over the joint, with the work carried out by an electrician who can then do the relevant tests afterwards

standard JB's under the floor - not allowed and a receipe for disaster in the future.

How old is the house, the cables could be vir!

And you'd need two JBs under each socket point if you wanted to maintain the ring. Seriously....get an electrician in.

Thanks for the info.

Won't be doing the work myself, getting a sparky to do it.

Just wanted to know the extent of the work that was needed and to get an idea of price.

Cheers

it all depends on whether the cables come from below or above. if they come down the wall, then no need to extend.

I've known instances where the original sparks were very considerate and left plenty of spare cable under the floor, if that's the case, your laughing

If its trouble with getting the plugs in your having could try turning the sockets upside down, save you a small fortune on sparkys!

he could call it the australia room

I wish everyone did this to be honest. I always leave abit of spare, because its a complete ballache when everything is so tight...more often than not so tight you struggle to get the socket face off to view the contents. Think everyone should be abit more lenient with spare cable.

If your lifting floor boards to do joints, may as well re wire th circuit. Less headaches down the line if joints not done correctly.
