Hi
I have been to look at some down lights in a basement flat that are not working. There is a mixture of MR16 lv lights and GU10,some of the fittings are fire rated approx 10 of them and another 12 that are not. There is a shop above the flat with another flat above that.
So my question is should the fittings be fire rated or not

Many thanks

I always fit fire rated as I feel they are a far better fitting than the open type.

Thanks for the reply. It was my thought as well. I'll break the news to the landlord and change the lights next week.

It would depend on the ceiling itself, are these fittings in a lowered or false ceiling is the original flat ceiling correctly fire rated and unbreached, regardless of whether thyou could use standard fittings, IMHO always fit fore rated ones as they are now cheap enough so really struggle to see anyone giving a plausable excuse not to.
