Discuss Generator Installation in the Commercial Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hello Gents.

Long time.

We have a 250A 3 Phase 415V. PEN Genny to install.

I thought I'd pop in here whilst I look elsewhere as well:

Just wondering what sort of Earth rod situation I should have going on, what length and all that jazz, including the resistance I need.

I could do it my way but I'd for sure be breaking someone's precious regulation somewhere I bet.

First I've done and I bet there's some people here who can blow me out the water so please do so.

Edit: Little bit more on it - Industrial Continuous Generator, not standby, not connected to DNO or mains at all.

Cheers Lads.

First off who designed and sized the generator to the system it's supplying?? Sounds as if this could well end up being a very expensive means of providing a supply to this industrial facility. Taking into account fuel costs and the REGULAR maintenance costs such a prime power generators will almost certainly incur...

As it is the main source of supply, the Ra/Ze of this installation needs to be as low as you can reasonably achieve and may need more than one earth electrode position. Not enough information to go any deeper here, such as type of building construction eg metal framed / concrete frame brick-block infill etc...

Sorted it out now no problem.

Yep, you're entirely correct, the whole situation is out of my control (Managing Director's Orders). It's powering a Furnace and will run quite often.

The key reason is that he doesn't want to dish out for a sub-station that we need because we've maxed out our supply.

Fun and games.
