Thought others may appreciate this bit of handiwork I found in the loft today....

This was controlling all of the upstairs lights, yes the wires you see hanging out are live and were left exactly as you see it. the four wires leading away from the board were servicing what I can only describe as an aquarium UV blacklight (as a main bathroom light! well at least it would be I.P rated I suppose :) . As being fairly new I was a bit stumped to what was mounted on the board and have since discovered that it appears to be the inner workings taken from a commercial / industrial light fitting.

The property has lots of commercial fittings which I think have been half inched or left over from jobs. Apparently the previous owner was an electrician, though I have my doubts. The lighting circuits will have to be a total rewire as the cpc has been stripped out, really nice property but lots of sockets in weird places, live wires left exposed etc...total renovation being done.

Ha Ha I did joke with the new owners that they were growing illegal plants!! its weird isn't it and I'm not just saying it on here but I would never dream of putting something like that in my attic even before I was interested in electrics, just one look at it tells you its unsafe, yet the way its wired up does show that he knew something about electrics, reminds me of the flux capacitor from back to the future - perhaps we are being ignorant and its the greatest invention man has ever made. At least the loft is nicely exposed to run in the new wires.
