LED Gu10s to replace Halogen lamps not working

Hi,

In the past I've replaced MR16 halogen spots with LEDs and had issues getting them to work. I understand this is driver related. This time, I'm having problems switching GU10s halogen with LED. I can't understand this as my understanding is there will not be a driver involved and this should just me normal mains voltage. Any thoughts on what I'm missing?

Where did you source your LED lamps from?

I think some cable has become detached while getting the halogens out.
GU10 LED are a straight swap for GU10 halogen.

However,
There was a post on here a while ago about someone looking for 12v GU10, and the majority said they didn't exist.... Which we were proved wrong.
What i'm saying is, check the voltage rating on your LED lamps.

I got them from Screwfix. Supposedly 240v.

Where did you source your LED lamps from?

Yep, what exactly is the problem?

You swapped like for LED like, and nothing happens?

Yes. There were 6 lights in the bathroom. Two were LED, the others halogen. When I replaced them only 2 lights worked.

Without pulling all the insulation up I can't see exactly how they're set up. Too hot up there today.

We're they all functional before you replaced them.

Yes. Only once I swapped is there a problem. I know the bulbs are good. The wiring must be loose somewhere.

Insulation causing damage to halogen light fittings due to lack of heat dissipation is a common problem.
Watch your fingers for possible live parts exposed by damage if you go pulling the insulation up.

Are you 100% certain the old lamps were all 230v.

From what I could read on them yes. One the print has almost worn off or wasn't printed on properly.

Sounds like something has broken down whilst you were moving them about. Could be a whole pile of dodgy connections holding them all together.

Could try putting the old lamps back in, see if the work.

If they do its a lamp issue, unlikely but woth a go.

If they don't then its wiring,

If theyre loop in loop out wired and none of the lights work the issue probably lies at the first fitting, loft unfortunately.

If you have 230v live and neutral at the lamp holder and the lamp does not work it is faulty, it is as simple as that

Yes, I tried switching lamps around and the same two sockets work, whichever combo I go with. Makes me wonder if there are two separate loops!

...or the loop out to the other lights is loose from one of the working lights.

Sounds like something has worked loose while changing the bulbs.

Unless you are 100% you can make the circuit safe to work on I'd be getting some professional help.

Lighting can catch me out occasionally with how wired, it's not always obvious, well some of the gods on here can just smell the switch and work it out, just not me.

I see dodgy connector blocks and insulation tape.
