Firstly, I’m sorry if this has been asked before - it’s just that with a thorough search I can’t find the answer anywhere.

I’m looking at options to become an electrician at the moment, and some providers are telling me that I can become an electrician and sign off on domestic installations with the level 2 and level 3 2365 diplomas.

My question is if that’s true or not?
For example, my friend has a house that needs renovated and if I were to complete the level 2 and level 3 2365 diplomas - could I offer to legally rewire it for her? Then sign it off as completed?

Thank you

Not quite, but also yes.

Any competent (which you should be) person can complete an EIC. The difficult part for someone in your situation is that the Local Authority Building Control have to issue a certificate. This can be achieved by being a member or a competent person scheme (CPS) OR direct notification.

If you speak to your council building control they'll offer advice on what they need. In North Kesteven they wanted £150 and a completed EIC.

The main question for me would be whether you can complete the work confidently and competently.

OP is in Scotland though, where I don't believe they don't have the same rules.

Technically yes but you will need liability insurance if you are doing this as paid work and that is where you might have issue.
