Hi Guys!

Need advice for my first Consumer units change. I am qualified to PART P, and Domestic Electrical Qualified not registered on scheme yet hence doing this job for a friend.

I want to get the job right as be reference for Napit when i join.

My issue is Have day rate and night rate cables connected to MEM 5 way box for day rate and cable going to consumer BS3036. Should i just change the BS3036 small consumer to Breaker and on/off switch or mould it to one box with Mem 2000 Day box!

Picture links above. just trying to think of way keeping both rates in one small consumer unit. Any suggestions be great!

Have the main consumer covered using a Wago Din and new consumer RCD protection.

You should call your part P scheme technical helpline and ask their advice. That's part of what you pay them for. As with any work though, if you are not sure of what you are doing, you probably shouldn't be doing the work for a paying customer.

The best tool for this will be a bit of paper and a pencil. Draw out the existing then draw out the new as it should be.

Post up the pictures, as they will give a lot more info than the vague description you have given.

Thanks already planned on paper as to what needs changing, Just the Economy 7 part. Thanks anyway! Mark

Thanks for advice! Although not registered yet as in process of registering with Napit after completed this job with Building control as i am aware i have to do this legally. Regards

Mark

Mate, the information you need is right there on the job in front of you.
OK it would help a hell of a lot if you actually understood what was going on there (that was not intended as a dig at you before anyone jumps on it) but all you're doing is upgrading the protective devices. Think about it logically.

Thank you for you input I know you not digging. Just needed some input, suggestions as many experienced electricians usually have better way solving this. My way simply change the small consumer to Non-Rcd protected box for two storage heaters. Leave the day rate box.

Is the wiring to the storage heaters all on the surface? If not, you may need RCD protection for this.

They are two separate existing boards in their own right. If the customer, say your mate has only asked for one to be changed then this is all you should do. then specify which board you changed on cert. and identify the different boards.
I'm sure I remember you can get a board which takes both and keeps things neat in one board. It was a while ago.
