Just returned from callout to Old dear in village who had a problem with an RCD tripping. Checked circuits and discovered that she had just connected 3 oil filled radiators to ring circuit to "keep chill out" before having to use central heating. Oil filled radiators have not been used for 6 months. 2 of the 3 are causing the RCD to trip. Has anyone come across this?

Possible cause is there is a fault on the radiators thats why RCD is tripping

I checked out the earth bond and insulation with a PAT. Failed on both. As I was curious I connected both radiators to a circuit not protected by RCD for 2 minutes. Carried out PAT again. Passed this time. Connected them to RCD side again. Operated normally. Have taken them away to remove the temptation to use them. They are currently running in my workshop on a test rig so I can monitor them.
