Hi Guys

Ok so I have this little rewire on and have to put main protective bonding to services.

On the gas, it has been fitted in an external gas box in a shared part-covered passage (:D). I could bond in the box on customers side no problem. The pipe reduces down and is about 5m to point of entry of which 2m is outside. To bond on entry to the building is a problem as the boiler (fitted in the 90's) has the gas branching to boiler and cooker behind the boiler - so I cant get to before the branch.

Also interesting to note is the neighbour has 1.5mm T&E zipped to the pipe or their light. Cheek!

Thoughts?

TIA, David

Stop it, stop it now!

Sorry DaveyD but I'm in one of those moods tonight.

It sounds like its going to be easier to install your end in the external box. Why struggle going the extra mile (well 5m) to shove it up an old boiler? You've also got to think which has the lowest resistance? The new box or the old boiler? Both electrically and personally I'd go for the new box lol :).

Let's not get on the topic of splitting the ring, this is a respectable forum.

(i think I may get a telling off for this but its funny and ho so true).

When terminating the gas bonding conductor in a gas meter cabinet:
The Gas safety (Installation and Use) Regulations prohibit a bonding conductor passing through the same hole as a gas pipe. The bonding conductor external to the cabinet is required to pass through a separate hole in the external building wall above the damp course, and should be as short as possible to minimise mechanical damage.
The entry hole for the into the gas cabinet, exit hole from the property and the bonding conductor itself must be separated from any gas pipework or equipment by >25mm BS6891 Installation of Low Pressure Gas Pipework in Domestic Premises, and should enter the cabinet on the right hand side (consumer side of gas meter) and must be sealed on both sides of the cabinet.
