Hi guys, I have a arcitect who wants me to put a 11 kg street light on this pole, I need a reg number to let her know it is dangerous to do so as she won't listen to me, the hedge around it has somehow weakened the ground below and it is not safe to use, I am owed nearly 5k on this job in total and the whole thing has come to a standstill over this pole, looking through the regs I am struggling for some silly reason, there is a reg but where lol any ideas?

you won't find a reg. for that. it's a H&S matter, not electrical. IMO. unless you can find something on secure fixing of equipment.

Found one just now, reg 559.4.1, that will do, sorry for the delay in putting this up, I am still currently trying to write a snotty e-mail to her, thanks anyhow tel, cheers mate.

i would have just put the light up and tie rapped the poll to that metal fence behind it

Personally I would have told the client you put up the pole via a builder to building regs and I will attach the light , otherwise here is my bill now pay and sod off

I sent the arcitect a professional e-mail explaining the situation and sent her pictures confirming the problem. She has now decided I was right and she has instructed a building contractor to straighten the pole and ensure it is secure. I have won the day and didn't need to tell her to sod off. Telling her to do that although IMO she is incompetant would mean 100k plus of work down the toilet.

Who installed the concrete foundation for this street lighting pole and how long has the pole been in place?? Normally this would be provided within the civil contract and would be have been designed (with some input from electrical contractor) to be suitable for the local ground conditions prevailing. Looks to me, as that concrete foundation plinth needs to be deeper and wider at the base.... Left as it stands, that lean is only going to worsen....

It is an old thorn pole fitted 20 years ago I suspect. Basically a job came out to tender to fit bollard lighting, wall lighting and 2 lights on 2 existing poles. The job goes out to at least 5 electrical contractors and the winner is always the cheapest with the county council. To give you an idea of how close it was there was less than 300 quid between all 5 companies. On this occassion I manged to sneek in an win one for once. The jobs are so tight you only price exactly to the spec and no more. I knew when the job started the pole would need to be sorted out, however if I would have mentioned it at tender stage I would never have won the work. The pole is being sorted out now. A builder has cleared all the hedges away from around it and they are digging a 600mm2 hole around what is there and they will straighten the pole and whack a load of cement in around it. Here is the light which will go onto it when it is finished, with the exception of the 3 silly 10mm2 bolts which need replacing with shorter bolts and shake proof washers and locking nuts.
