Hi guys

After some suggestions. My next job will be to wire a new timber frame extension throughout.
My questions are any tips for running cables down outside of beams to sockets and also thinking about using oval conduit within walls containing insulation boards.

Any tips much appreciated.

Do you mean running cables for sockets down exposed beams?
I can’t see any issues with oval conduit in insulated walls as long as cables rated accordingly. Might be simpler to just clip to stud work though.

Hi Tim
Thanks for the reply.

Yes down exposed beams. Obviously it needs to look the part.
The cables basically need to be up a size within cavities due to heat exposure I believe. I plan to reduce the load on each ring etc

Well for exposed beams the first decision is whether to try and hide cables or not.

Routing out a channel and capping is an option.
Making wooden trunking is another option.

On surface galv conduit can look good depending on aesthetics of rest of it, as can MICC for a price!
There’s also flexishield which holds its shape well and can be neatly P clipped.

The cheapest and easiest is wood effect D line trunking from TLC, that looks pretty good and solves the problem with minimal effort.
You can get wood effect boxes and even sockets.
All depends on time and money!

The alternative is to go coloured conduit and highlight its position with coloured surface box's and switch/socket plates, can look very effective in the right environment, red in an office, blue in a bedroom etc:
