I've a 54 year old house. It's a grandma unit with a few guests here and there.
Thermostat went out so I ordered another one.
Apparently this is a line voltage thermostat and the original has four terminals.

The 2 top screw terminals say "line", the two bottom screws say "load"
In the junction box there were two wires attached to "line"
The bottom two screws had two wires on each side.
I expect someone was "daisychaining" from the outlet box for power elsewhere in the house.

Looking at the new replacement A1 66, there are four wires extending from it. Two are blue and two are black, should the black wires connect to the top and the blue the bottom?Since there is no terminals on the thermostat I am going to have to use wire nuts on the leads. I do have a voltmeter but very little electrical knowledge,

It may be worth you posting a photo, but to be honest this is a UK based forum and I would advise trying a USA based one.

We certainly wouldn't advise the use of wire-nuts over here!
