Yes, ours are wired in to the mains and have back up batteries (which were changed not all that long ago as they were chirping). One in the hallway and one on the landing.
add a heat rise detector in the kitchen. saved my life and that of the dogs when i forgot the chip pan and it set alight.

Just a further update to this...

At 9pm last night out supply was cut off for safety, until they could get a mini digger out this morning.
The power coming into our house was fine, but there was an issue with it going back out and to the neighbours, which is why they had no power at all, it was bouncing back or something (very technical I know ?). This bouncing back was what was apparently causing the pops and flickering of the lights.
After digging a huge hole this morning, they found it was a very old lead cable that was the problem, it had degraded and water from the ground had gotten into it.

I hope this all makes sense ?

Hopefully the problem has been resolved!

Thank you all again for your input and help, it really is much appreciated! ❤️
