Hi fellas,

Still a bit shook up from before, but please excuse me if i sound like i dont know what im talking about regards electrics, truth is, i dont.

Our fridge freezer cut off before, as in it stopped making any noise, and started to defrost. The light was still coming on though when i opened the fridge so i knew it werent the plug. Theres a little dial inside the fridge, for temperature, but when i turned it nothing happened at all. Now i know this might sound totally stupid to anyone who knows what there doing but i learnt a lesson and wont be doing it again. I unscrewed the little panel inside the fridge which had the dial, and the inside light attatched. There were wires inside, and like a complete noob, i started to check they were all still connected, feeling the connections. Yep i didnt even turn the damn thing off first. I got the biggest shock of my life, my finger were on a wire and i just screamed out **** but it felt like it went through my arm and my chest was like shaking for about 5/10 seconds until i actually got my finger off. The only way i can explain it is when you see on tv them people in hospital with them electric shock things for the chest, it felt like that, and worried me quite alot that it was around my chest area.

Does anyone know what sort of voltage/amps this will have been as i have absolutely no idea about anything like that. Im not in any pain or anything after it, just still shook up. I 'think' that the bit i were touching was part of the inside fridge light wire, or maybe whatever powers that temperature dial. It was right next to a little spring whatever it were. Ive had little shocks before, and this wasn't like it, i felt like a rag doll the way my chest was moving back and forward, all be it for a couple of seconds.

Thanks alot for taking the time to read it, ive learnt an important lesson today. Its mine and my girlfriends new home, young a dumb maybe trying to save a few quid, but one thing for sure is next time i will be calling out a professional.

Mike

dont mean to worry you mate, but you should seek help upto 24hrs after a shock if you start to feel unwell during that time..
and dont stick your fingers where you shouldnt..you were lucky this time..

Wow, I'd see a doctor just to be sure you're fine. Don't mean to worry you but electric shocks can alter the heart's rhythm.

Did the circuit breaker not trip?

Chees guys, if you mean the box on my wall with all the switches labelled up for "upstairs lights" "downstaris sockets" etc then no, the fridge light stayed on after it happened. Still feel normal really, got a bit of a headache before but i think its to due with worrying too much thinking if it had been worse. Going to get in to docs anyway just to be on safe side though.

best way, you can`t take chances with the ticker.

My girlfriend was there holding the fridge door open, just told her that ive posted on here asking for info etc, and she reckons it was more like 3-5 seconds, sorry it just felt longer im going to still get in the doctors though. Have you any idea about what sort of voltage or amps couldve been going through the wire or is it too hard to say without knowing exactly what i were poking about at.

it could have been 1amp it could have been 10amp,it can only take milliamps to kill you,get seen too!!

the lightbulbs are normally 240v the amps under your fault would be less than the fuse in the plug as you say the light stayed on after. hope this helps you, but just to clarify i believe its actually milliamps that could kill you around a 100 milliamps could stop your heart, if it worries you still, get a rcd board fitted :D

sorry bud...................i have just sat there ******* myself laughing.....................im soooo sorry, the post made me think of the begining of casualty!:D You should be ok, i would call nhs direct, i dont think that it would have affected your body too much unless u already have a heart condition?
I have trauma experience from previous employment................if u are worried, make the call.

Im just off to change my pants at the most amusing post i have read so far!

U are prob in shock.........!..............no pun intended.

Don't panic yourself!

You will be ok bud :)

LOL, its alright i can handle a bit of stick for it, kind of expected some to be honest. Still phoned the NHS direct up though lol, they said pretty much the same thing, because it were 4 or 5 hours ago, if it were going to alter my heart beat it would have done it straight away and i would be able to tell. Better safe than sorry though eh, it worried me more i suppose coz i had a heart monitor on last year for chest pains and a were thinking ohhh sh*t i will have set it off worse now but it obviously hasn't.

Going to sound like an even more of a cowboy now, but the grubs all fine now mate, i gave the fridge freezer and good smack on the top pretty hard, and it started working. Hmmmm dodgy it will probably blow up on me when i go for the milk in morning.

Cheers lol!
