It,s always puzzled me how come if you are an mot tester you can,t mot your own car yet a spark can sign off his own work? most sparks do do a decent job but as this proves there are some that dont.

Isnt it only NICIEC test certs that ask for no. of points on each circuit ?
Have to admit it can be a pain if youre in a rush and the house is full of junk.

well I asked at my local garage and was told they cannot so the way round it is the 2 testers do each others cars.

This cert was for 10 new circuits in a house extension. My guess is that the house was empty when he tested it

If you download the free IET forms there is no space for "No. of points served". Just NICEIC forms have that, so not actually necessary from a regs point of view.

this is what i thought as well , still lazy though when you've done all the wiring yourself lol.

no it isn`t just the NIC forms that have a box for no. of points served....elecsa forms have em n all...as do the metrel ones..as do the acel ones....

It proves nothing of the sort! It just proves he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, everything else on the cert seems to be fine. Its an elecsa cert btw.

I have to say, on a new install I always used to put number of points but not always on D/B change etc, the new elecsa certs dont ask for it, so that in itself kinda invalidates any criticism of his neglecting to record it.

The new Elecsa forms are just logo'd duplicate IET ones.

Number of points is not a required element of an EIC or EICR, true NIC have the boxes on their forms as I am sure others do, however it is not a required element so therefore is arguement to not bother filling it it IMO.

MOT Testers can test their own cars but it is frounded upon as it is believed that they can just write a certificate out without doing any actual inspection.

Also on the point of MOT Testers - there are tighter regulations and requirements on them than there are on Electricians!

I have never seen the point of the "number of points served2 on a certificate. The only purpose it may serve is for future work carried out so at least folk can see if they have missed any points of a EICR, but that is relying on all paperwork being constantly up to date which in reality doesn't happen.

The exclamation mark implies that you think there is something strange about this....
Not sure if you've noticed, but quite a lot of people die in cars, a hell of a lot more in fact, than are killed by domestic electrical installations.
