Following on from the thread on Two way and intermediate switching (and related conversations) I was wondering where the "recognition" of just one of the methods comes from how far it had spread.
I've assumed preference stems from osg 7.4.4 as followed by Figure 7.3.
No reference is...

Hi
I am doing a periodic inspection on a thatched cottage. The cables for upstairs lights are run through the loft clipped direct to the joists. This is the first thatched cottage I have worked on and am not sure of the ideal wiring requirements for protection against fire and rodents. I am...
went to carry out a periodic report today and noted the points below. what are everyones thoughts on the coding?
1. no earth connected to metal light fitting. earth in cable but not on light.
2. twin and earth cable in roof space. property being thatched roof no rodent protection.
3. no 30ma...
Sure this question has been asked many times. Point me to previous post if need be. What coding do you use on pre 17th edition socket outlets that would now be installed with rcd protection. However currently not protected.
Also code 2 for any bonding on cable tray and ligh diffusers this is...
Just finished a periodic in a domestic premises due to be up for rental shortly.
My query is,
Supply is TNS
Counsumer unit is metalclad with tails entering bottow of DB through bushed holes but the tails are not rcd protected?

If you did a PIR for a 2391 exam and after testing found insulation resistance on a circuit to be 0.4M Ohms between line and earth on an outside light which code would you use?
Would you use code 2, requires improvement or code 3 requires further investigation?
I used code 3 and got the wrong...

if all else fails i will put down not terminated correctly IAW...
Just done a PIR today on a first floor flat. Just want a few opinions on codings for a couple of issues i noted.
Firstly, none of the sockets have 30mA RCD protection. Being a first floor flat the sockets are very unlikely to be used to feed equipment outside so the requirements of the 16th...
Hello all, I’ve several questions to ask.
Currently carrying out a PIR on a commercial premise and have made the following observation which I am not sure about:
1. Fans have been wired into the lighting circuits, sometimes with a switched fuse unit and sometimes without. Is this...
Ive just done a pir today and when filling forms out workmate says 'are you not coding no rcd as code 2, i replied no its a code 4, then well what about the mcb's thats code 4 surely, hummm so i said how come well my last boss said that was the case.
This has now got me thinking so id thought...
Hi there i was wondering what code you would give for charred black and melted insulation on line conductor at termination point in fuseboard? the circuit is feeding a wall mounted heater in 2.5mm T and E cable protected by a 3036 15 amp fuse. Is it caused by loose connection what action would...
I'm about to carry out a periodic and after asking other sparks i know (who seem to have different opinions) and reading up from various sources i'm still unsure on the correct coding to put on the certificate.
The PIR is at a shop which also has an upstairs flat. It's a TNS system and there...

Hi Guys
I have recently been hauled over the coals for coding items that are not in BS7671
e.g. No lighting in an Intake Room, Asbestos in Switchgear, etc
The customer says its not a reg (I agree) but I coded it a 2 as it needs lighting and is against the EAWR1989
They say I should only...

I really need to get this straight in my mind, having not done any PIRs for a long time (since the 16th edition) what is the scenario?
If I am asked to carry out a PIR on a perfectly installed 16th edition installation with no issues prior to July 2008 are all changes that occurred due to the...
I noticed on an inspection today that all switches I opened to inspect were wired red and black with no red sleeving to identify the black as a live. Seemed to be the same throughout the property although the spark who wired it took the trouble of sleeving at the ceiling roses?!
I appreciate...
