April 1st - wind up or job?

Just got a phone call from an elderly lady living on her own, saying that there was paper coming out of the plug on her new fridge, and could I come out to have a look? She then later phoned back, and asked if I could pick up her shopping from the local shop on the way, as she had broken her leg and could'nt get out.


I said that I would after arranging a time to visit her, but after I put the phone down I’ve realized what day it is! I think it’s a genuine call, but I still got a niggling feeling that this is a wind up!

There's a tv program being advertised atm about elderly people pranking others. Maybe you will be on camera. The paper from the plug is no doubt the "label" which slips over the pins.

Just got back, and it was a genuine job (even put the bins out for her!). And yes, the paper was the wiring card on the pins of the plug!

Do I get a gold star now!

a pat on the back from help the aged, maybe. remember a few weeks a go, had an old dear phoned up. she'd got a new iron and said it must have a new style plug. can i come and change a socket to siut. turned out that the iron plug had this plastic thingy over the pins, so she couldn't get it to go in the socket. doh!.

He asked me how much i wanted, i just said a fiver what with him being an old fella and me feeling abit harsh asking for anymore - but he actually wouldn't accept anything less than a tenner. Some people never pay, and then the odd few give you more than you asked for lol.

Even £10 is charity. I've done the same in the past, which is why I'll never have money.

I've found this as well. The old uns are just pleased that somebody will turn up and make them feel at ease about their electrics even though the problems are often blown out of all proportion in their own minds. Its called reassurance and being neighborly.

They are often happy to pay a solicitor a couple of hundred quid to change their wills, yet we keep helping out for a tenner. Does that make us better, or just stupid?
