Today I came across an old Wylex board that had its fuses converted to MCB (BS60989). There was so many issues such as new shower fitted in bathroom with no rcd to mention one but the worst was an immersion timer which had burn out due to 1mm of wire being used. The immersion was feed by 2.5mm (aluminum wire) off a 32 amp mcb shared with the socket ring. What to do? Well this is what i did and even though it is a temporary solution how bad is it as its on its limit design wise.
I fitted a 13 amp fcu to a new timer to the 3kw immersion heater. The flex is 1.5mm butyl and is 1m in length. I was thinking this will protect the wire as a 32mcb is too high and there are no more spare ways. what are your thoughts. I have said this WILL need a rewire ASAP but is it still C*(123?).
Sorry had a bad day. Yes i am an electrician and i know what needs to be done but ...customers have no money.

As long as the FCU is before the timer, I would have done exactly what you have. Clearly letting the client know its a temp solution.

Before: old timer no fuse or switch of any kind. day time cu is the small one on the left. Ecom 7 on the right. After with new 13 amp fcu and new timer in that order and 1.5mm not 2.5mm.
