Customer wants to convert front bedroom into a bathroom. The only problem is that the company head and the meter are on the wall. DNO wants to charge £1600 to move them. I can extend the metre tails and put the CU in another room (under 3m) but obviously can't move the company head.

What are the minimum requirements for shielding the company head? Can it be in an IP rated box on the wall?

Tried asking the DNO but after 1/2 hour of listening to Take on Me by A-Ha on hold I got a little fed up.

Having the main supply head in a bathroom is never a good idea and the best method would be to have the DNO move the head or have a different room as a bathroom.
Theoretically if the head is enclosed in a locked IP rated box then it should be safe, although all circuits in a bathroom should be 30mA RCD protected!, but not ideal at all. You have to make the call about what you would be happy doing and that it will comply with the regs (although the head is not covered by BS7671), I would hang on for the DNO to get their take on it, if you can find anyone with sense, then they have no come back.

I guess the question is going to resolve itself into when is a bathroom not a bathroom e.g if a stud wall encloses the company head and has a door then are we in a cupboard or a seperate room. If there's a door then we're outside the zones I guess.

Trying to get through to the DNO of course.
