I’m trying to replace my ceiling pendant and the wiring is confusing me. I have two neutral (black) wires and two live (red) wires, however the two live wires are looped and there’s no way to attach them to the new fitting without slicing and stripping the wires which I don’t want to do unless I have to. The last fitting only had the two neutral wires connected to it and the lives were simply wrapped up tightly above not connected. I’ll attach a photo, thanks.image.jpg

Not sure if those cables incorporate cpcs (earths) or of they are cut out nevertheless the cables are quite dated. Can you show the other ceiling rose.

Thanks for the reply, I managed to fix it, the black wires were actually one live and one neutral so in the end I had to guess and got it right. Thanks again

What about your CPCs (earths) though?

If there’s no earth, then it’s ok as long as it’s not a metal fitting. If there IS an earth, then it should be connected through from one cable to other.

you’re right in saying one black is a switched live, the other is a neutral. A regular light bulb/lamp will work either way round. The switches live should be marked with red tape or something.
