Hi,
I have been in sales for last 7 years and have finally had enough with the company I work for as it really has no decent prospects for the years to come. I have sat down with my partner over last 6 months discussing a change of career, and after trawling through endless possiblities I have taken a massive interest in the electrician route. However, I have known absolutely nobody within the career path to speak of and after doing research on the internet my head is spinning with the amount of different courses available.
Now unfortunately the job I am in pays absolutely awful so money is an issue when it comes to retraining. This said, I was wondering if anyone could give me a laymans explanation of what i really need to do to begin my career shift. Because atm every course sounds really interesting to me and I dont want to pick ones that are useless etc.
I understand with my limited funds its going to take a while doing part-time courses etc, which is why i'm asking for some experienced advice as to what courses i should do and in what order etc.

Any help would be fantastic,
Cheers, Alex =)

Hello and welcome to the forums Alex !
First thing i would suggest is ask yourself if you want to be a qualified spark that does commercial/industrial mainly if so id advise getting booked on a 2330 course at a collage etc and try get some free work for an electricial company for the exp side of things you could also ad on here for your free work offer this will take around 4yrs to complete with 2382 & 2391 ! or a domestic installer who just works on domestics if thats more your cup of tea then get yourself on a domestic installers course and the 2382 and start small with notifying LABC (see labc whats notifiable and whats not under part p building regualtions) then get assessed by a self certifying scheme such as NICEIC, ELECSA, ECA, NAPIT etc etc also check out their websites for whats required for these schemes ! if your not sure do some free work offer on here say for sparks and domestic installers that way you will see what they entail mainly before you make your choice ! dont forget you can always start as a domestic installer then you can do 2330 part time as well to build on quals and part time work for an electrical company for the qual spark route !
Regards
Kung.
