Do people really like yapping dogs?

In the house behind us they have a little white terrier dog of some sort, and two or three times a day they let it out, and it yaps. For the whole time it just yaps. Behind our stable another couple do the same, both dogs yap continuously for about 30 minutes. The owners never try to stop them, and will even talk to each other whilst the pesky mutts are at it. How can they bear it?

I am a dog person and our last was a Cocker and his bark could pierce eardrums but we never let him yap away in the garden. But yes once you have picked up on a yapping dog it is lodged in your brain, they are a pain in the --- and you wonder whether the owners actually hear it.

ours yap when they first run out in the morning but shut up i less than a minute, as long as there's not a cat on the fence. then all bets are off.

Don't expect dogs to be silent, it's only natural that they bark, but not constantly for that length of time

Did a job in the communal area of a small HMO last week with 2 yappy dogs behind a door within 6 feet of where I was working; headache-inducing but thats nature's way. I'm a dog fan but couldn't own a yappy one though

I guess a yappy dog is like a noisy kid, the parents/owners get used to it and tune it out, or don't give a t oss - 50:50 as to which?

I’d have my ear defenders on when it comes to something like that situation - I’d rather listen to my own pointless thoughts than pointless barking!

We have a cat that we procured from our communal dustbin; We have since registered and insured it. Horrible little fecker that will meow for something and hiss at me when its got it. Much prefer dogs but the missus wouldn't tolerate anything that could bite higher than your ankle.

Would love a German Shepherd if I had the space and time to look after one properly

My cat was a rescue that made us fall in love with it in the pound then when we got it Home acted like it was feral - BUT 4 years on she is chilled and a great character, Still gets a bit ----y but that is usually me winding her up!

Might have been a bit harsh calling her a little fecker, she's tame as anything but don't understand the occasional hissing thing. Happy Xmas. Just been woken up by our meowing cat with a mouse which it has just dropped. Mouse now loose somewhere in the house! Dogs not barked yet.

We got some nice neighbours with two yapping dogs, terrier & spaniel. Left home alone, or with latch key kids left to look after them, with the run of their garden. They bark at a sparrows fart, and carry on ALL day. Complained to them & council. This summer, they decide barking wasn't sufficient, and started to eat a hole in the fence. Which was great, 'cos I could squirt the hose at them, and give them a good soaking.

Owners seem to have taken note, with holes in their fence and bedraggled mutts. Merry Xmas
