For a question in my assigment ive got to answer why the designer would of requested a three phase four way glass reinforced plastic (G.R.D? shouldnt that be G.R.P fibreglass?) surface monthed distribution board mounted 1500mm about f.f.l

Im not sure what f.f.l means so knowing this might help with the question...

Cheers

F.F.L = Finished Floor Level. So mount it 1500mm from finished floor level.

It could be for use in an area liable to flooding or other external influences leading to a higher risk of corrosion.

Okay that kinda helps... Its being installed in a garden centre so i guess one reason for having it could be extra protection from customers, damage etc?

Absolutely, all of those being classed as 'external influences'.

Most of our Final distribution DBs are all metal, but where plastic has been specified for the location environmental purpose, we use these fiberglass reinforced units for the impact protection they afford. They have a much thicker material construction (and cover(s), than you would normally see on a normal plastic constructed DB/CU.
