hi all have been ask to install some down lights in a loft conversion but didnt no if these would have to be fire rated because of the king span or if it would be ok to leave a gap round the light it only the building inspecter is a bit of a pain
 
Andrew the fire rated is for the hole you cut in the ceiling not because of the insulation ,if you require one that can be covered in insulation you need the capped F type ,because of the hole you cut you have to replace the fire resistance 30 60 or 90 mins this you can do with the fire rated if you remove the insulation around the down lighters or place a soil pipe around the fitting so it cant be covered with insulation then you should be ok
