Hi all, Does anybody have a link to a guide for retro fitting downlights to an existing ceiling? the main point being assessment as to whether fire rated fittings are required. Obviously the belt & braces approach is best ie fit fire rated regardless but occasionally there are other factors such as oversized holes already in the ceiling or a particular request by client etc . Also do any of part B's (?) requirements apply to existing ceilings etc anyway? cheers John

These documents should help you assess the requirements for downlights.
Including the fire resistance issue.
Most of the requirements of Part B apply to the area that has been changed. The building regulations state that the work you do should be to the current regulations and the rest of the building must not be made worse in terms of compliance.

The Elecsa document is particularly useful, as it addresses common scenarios etc . As a member of Elecsa, clearly I should have sought their advice...I am paying for it after all! thanks tho RB...
