Like what seems to be most of the world, i'm going to try my hand at getting offshore. Got the bosiet and mist booked up but I also booked my compex. Anybody out there already completed the course and want to give me a heads up on what to expect?

Cheers,

Alec.

From what I gather its hard to get a start. What I would suggest is sending a cv in to different companies. Petrofac are a good one to try. I was at a careers event recently and they were looking for sparks with compex, helicopter evac, offshore survival etc.

Hi,

I've done this course, I think 5 times ( the company I was with always made us do the complete course each time, rather than just the refresher ).
It also depends which you are doing, I did 1,2,3 & 4 which is Electrical and Instrumentation ( 1 & 2 are Electrical , 3 & 4 are Instrumentation).
Anyway as for the course it comes in a number of parts,
1. Practical Installation
2. Fault finding ( practical )
3. Repair
4. Inspection ( practical )
5. A couple of multi-choice exam papers.

If you are adept at SWA you should have no problem, you also need to be able to do compound filled barrier glands.
The first three days will be in the classroom doing all the theory then a couple of days doing the practicals. If you are there for 5 days, then I would say that would be 1, 2, 3 & 4.
Where are you doing the course? From experience there are places I would rather go to,

Regards.
