Not sure why I've not come across this site before now, but today it was the first to have a post that answered (confirmed) my thoughts re plinth lighting if the LED lights had a moulded transformer .. comply with IET 411.3.3b re labelling of the outlet.

My day job is as a technical project manager, having been in data networks since the early days of thick coax and 14.4k modems

I am a DIY electrician, having done my own work since the 1980s and in the past year have attended various training/refresher courses to attain EAL level 2 vocational Pt P and also the C&G 17th Ed (and 2 months later they bring out an update!).

I am in the process of remodelling my kitchen so extending circuits (no new ones). Over the past year as well as the electrical training & exams, I've also attended a 2 weekend plastering course (all at BTC in Croyden) as last weekend I took down the awful artex ceiling and moved a non load bearing wall.

I've got my own 17th edition tester (Kewtech KT63),MCB locks and the software to generate the 17th Ed forms I need to perform and record all the relevant date. Having done the training I did have the intention to register with NICEIC but the cost/reward has put that on hold unless I semi retire (kitchen fitting appears to fit well with my long term hobby of woodwork and quality cabinet making).

I doubt I'll be able (or should) give advice to many posts but am sure I'll learn.

Thanks

Dave

You belittle yourself with DIY tag you would suit better as a trainee... ask a Mod for access to the training section as your questions will be more suited there... ps Welcome to the forum.

Interesting idea Darkwood, it is a first of it's kind but I can see where you are coming from. I like it.

Davegl welcome to the forum and I will be in touch via private message with a few options for you just so you know what is available on this forum to help you out. I think the Trainee Section may be the best option but that is up to you.

Interesting all round, a bit of a first for me too. Welcome.

Welcome along. Sounds like you're happy to get stuck in to anything building related!

Had a chat with the staff and we dont think it would work for a couple of reasons, sorry. We will help you with your project, just post up whatever questions you may have.

Thanks for the welcome and the consideration to be a "trainee" - I didn't really focus on the difference when I joined as I don't class my self a trainee as not working in the trade. Impededloop you are right, I'll tackle almost anything in the home or with cars (my first job in 1973 was in a garage where I became the vehicle electrical 'expert' by age 16).
My kitchen fit is progressing, with the bulldog metal frame stud wall up today & I now have a box of 100 25mm grommets whereas I 'll probably only use 4 (at £3 the box is wasn't worth the fuel to go elsewhere).

It was in reflection of your history, DIY members don't really have any training under their belt let alone test meters hence my suggestion - whether the title fits or not, your level of questioning would be in no doubt more advanced than a DIYer :)
