Hi All,

Quick intro as i've read a lot from a distance but now I am looking to get involved, ask questions and get some advice. Thanks everyone up to this point

I am 33 in Greater Manchester area, completed C&G 2365 L2 & 3 at Trafford college a couple of years ago, recently updated to 18th edition and I have my ECS labourer card.

I am currently working for Sky TV whilst also working part-time with a local electrician for past 6 months (2-3 days a week) mainly domestic work, re-wires, extensions, and of course a lot of the dirty work ? Done a few commercial jobs including lighting in school and hospitals.

Having been on the tools for years plus with my electrical experience I feel now is a good time to get my NVQ done and dive in with both feet. Took me some time to build up to this point as i've had 2 children between college a few years ago and now (slows you down to say the least), its also daunting leaving a decent job for the unknown but I am confident it will work out better in the long run.

Looking for advice on NVQ course providers and also hunting for commercial work but i will post my questions in correct forum areas.

HOWDY ✋

Thanks for you time

Nice story/career progression. Best of luck with the NVQ/AM2? Nice to meet you and welcome!

good intro.looks like you have a cunning plan. good luck with it. only advice i can give is to try and bias more towards industrial work. maybe eventually specialising. sod grovelling under floors knackering your knees with underpaid, and undervalued domestic work.

Thanks for the advice, heard that a few times already so must me something in it.

If that was the route I was aiming for, would the NVQ in installations still be a suitable route or should I lean towards maintenance or something else?

I need to start somewhere and installations seems like the best starting point, possibly specialise after ?
Thanks
