Installed a 3.92kW System today. Using a 4000-TL SMA Inverter. The inverter gave a grid voltage error. After checking the input voltage it was at 255 which is definatley too high for the SMA Inverter. The house is only a few doors away from a sub station which may be causing this.

What are the best solutions for this

1. Call DNO and get them to reduce voltage... likelihood is it will take some time
2. Install a voltage optimizer?
3. Change setting in Inverter using the Grid guard code to up the limit? I presume I would need DNO permission to do this?
4. Other?

1. Yes, the allowable limit for the DNO is 253.
2. Will not work
3./4. Are you sure the inverter is set on G83? If so it should not be cutting out until 264V. Some of the continental cut out limits are 253V so if the inverter has defaulted to something other than G83 then that could be the problem.

Hi Bruce,

Yes I think the invert is set to 253V. Can I change this using the Grid guard code from SMA without having to inform DNO? If so I will try change it to 264V and see if it resolves the problem.

Thanks

You should not be trying to set the parameters individually. Just do what it says in the installation manual and set the first two dials to 5 and 8 and provided it has not yet been running for 10 hours then it should set itself to G83. If you have already locked it to something other than G83 because it has been going more than 10 hours then you will need an SMA grid guard code.
Regards
Bruce
