Hi,

I have been tasked with a kitchen rewire. The current DB is fed by a 16mm armoured.
There is a split load old contactum DB which I don’t fancy buying MCBs for.

I have quoted to add a sub DB with RCBO to cover my new kitchen wiring. My question is how would you feed the new DB?

Usually I would Henley block into the tails but as it’s being fed by an armoured where do I go? I see I have three options;

Feed the sub board via a 63a MCB though this allows for no discrimination via 16mm twin and Earth.

Complete DB upgrade to allow for new circuits

Or 16mm twin and Earth into the top of the main switch.

Advice please, note getting to the main incoming supply is not an option as too far across the house!

I would go all in....New Board with spd and rcbo's

Quote for a whole new RCBO board

If they won't have it and then I would normally 40/45amp MCB in the old board to feed my new mini sub board

I don't like the idea of coming off the top of the main switch ( yes we have all seen it done ) but it just seems a bit naff that way

I agree new CU is best or come off an MCB.
A further option if you have lots of wall is to regland the SWA into a galv box, crimp onto tails with tails gland, then Henley’s etc. this would be last choice for me, and isn’t ideal if the armour is the CPC.

I’m assuming the rewire is actually required and what is there can’t readily be adapted?
